Everwood releases its graphics module for the Benilla client as open source

Everwood, a hard roleplay server in development, released an improved graphics module for Benilla on 26 September 2026. Benilla is an open-source World of Warcraft 1.12.1 client that samwhosung wrote from scratch. The Everwood team built the module for its own server, but "you can use it for any WoW Classic project, including Tortoise," its Reddit post says.
What the module adds
- A real-time sun, and shadows for characters, the world and foliage, with moon shadows at night
- Dynamic lighting inside buildings, flickering torches and lamps, lava glow, and lights from spells and ground effects
- Bloom on fire, lava, spells and lit windows
- A smooth sky, volumetric fog, a longer render distance and better colour grading for each zone
- Better water, with reflections, waves and rings from the rain, inspired by iThorgrim's WarcraftXL
- Wet ground, puddles and wet stone in the rain, with shelter under roofs and bridges
Graphics presets go from Classic, which keeps the original look for low-end PCs, up to Ultra, and every effect can be switched on or off on its own. The code is on GitHub as benilla-everwood_graphics, under the same MIT or Apache 2.0 licence as Benilla, and the team showed the module in a YouTube video the same day.
