Frostmourne 'WotLK: Rebuffed' launches on Whitemane with 8,500 players online

Whitemane's rebuilt Wrath realm Frostmourne, branded Wrath of the Lich King: Rebuffed, went live on Saturday, 19 September 2026. According to the team, more than 8,500 players were online at the same time on launch day.

A rough first half hour

For the first 30 minutes every Whitemane service was unreachable because of a large-scale DDoS attack on the whole infrastructure. The team mitigated it within half an hour. Some players then had high latency, which was traced and fixed, and a list of known issues followed on 20 September.

What comes next

• Tier 7 raids open in Normal difficulty on 30 September and in Heroic a week later, on 7 October
• The team is working on a new progression system that it has not described yet

What Rebuffed changes

• Quest rewards can roll a higher quality: an eligible Uncommon reward has a 19% chance to become Rare and a 1% chance to become Epic
• Personal Loot in level 80 five-player dungeons
• Justice, Valor, Honor and Conquest currencies; Season 5 PvP gear no longer requires a rating
• More than 80 changes to the new Heroic Naxxramas
• Vulkan support, HD character models and a rebuilt character creator
• Account-wide mounts and pets, cross-faction grouping and AoE looting
• Dual Talent Specialization for 10 gold and Apprentice Riding free at level 20
• Northrend split into four independently processed regions for better performance
