Project Alterac shuts down two months after launch

Project Alterac, the phased WotLK+ server that opened on 5 July 2026, has shut down. Owner Jna announced it in a farewell post titled "Thank you, Alterac": "The server is shutting down. Thanks for being a part of it."

Why it closed

• Hosting has been paid out of pocket since a CDN billing incident the month before
• Technical problems kept coming back, and there was neither the time nor the money to keep fixing them
• The owner has less free time, and the World of Warcraft: Forever beta opened on 17 September

The post does not say what happens to accounts or characters.

A short run

Project Alterac launched with a level 20 cap, custom raids for each level bracket and a launcher for Windows, Linux and macOS. The closure came days after Blizzard announced World of Warcraft: Forever at BlizzCon.

Project Alterac is now marked as offline in our server list.
