Warmane completes inactivity cleanup and gold squish across all realms

Warmane took all of its realms and its website offline at 08:00 server time on 16 February 2026 for a planned inactivity cleanup and gold squish. The team had announced the maintenance the day before as a step towards a healthier in-game economy, and later that day it confirmed that the realms and the website were back online and the process was complete.

The cleanup removed long-inactive characters and accounts from the databases, which freed up character names and cut database bloat on the older realms. The squish reduced the total amount of gold in circulation on the affected realms. A forum thread, "Inactivity Cleanup and Gold Squish for a healthier economy", explained the thresholds and answered player questions.

Gold squishes are rare on Warmane. Its Icecrown realm has run continuously for more than a decade, and a huge amount of gold had built up in its economy. The maintenance came soon after Onyxia entered Wrath Phase 1 raiding in January.

Update: the Battlegroup 1 arena season closed in early March, and Ulduar opened on Onyxia on 4 April 2026.
