Athenas WoW closes its Classic and Reforged realms and plans one Cataclysm realm

Athenas Project, the network behind Athenas WoW - Gadgetzan, announced on 1 October 2026 that its Athenas Classic and Athenas Reforged realms have ended. Athenas Classic ran Cataclysm 4.3.4, and Athenas Reforged a custom version called Cataclysm Plus 4.3.4. The team says the characters from both are not lost but are being migrated, and that very soon all of its Cataclysm realms and their characters will be merged into one realm. It has not given a date or a name for that realm. Until then, players can keep playing on Gadgetzan.
Where Gadgetzan stands
- Since 29 September, Gadgetzan uses a new realmlist, logon.cata.athenaswow-project.com:3727. The team calls the address final, and characters, items, gold and progress stayed as they were
- The Gadgetzan page now says all Cataclysm content is available, up to Dragon Soul in normal and heroic. Phases 5 to 7 of the roadmap are still secret
- In the Guardian Trial, a mode with 100 waves of enemies and a boss every fifth wave, the record stood at wave 85 on 2 October. A day later the team announced Guardián de Ascenso, a mode that takes players from level 1 to 85 through waves of enemies instead of quests, solo or in a group. It is due very soon
What comes next
The network lists two more realms as coming soon: COA Athenas, which brings the Conquest of Azeroth classes to Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a, and Athenas Pandaria on Mists of Pandaria 5.4.8. Neither has a date yet.
