Athenas WoW opens Gadgetzan, a progressive Cataclysm realm with x3 rates

Athenas WoW - Gadgetzan opened on 23 May 2026 at 8 pm Colombia time, which was 01:00 UTC on 24 May. Gadgetzan is the new realm of Athenas Project, a network of servers for Spanish-speaking players, and runs Cataclysm 4.3.4 with x3 rates and gradual progression. It started at patch 4.0.6 with PvP Season 9, and the Tier 11 raids were released step by step.

The opening event

In the event called El Fin del Mundo (The End of the World), Deathwing flew over random zones, waves of elementals invaded the capital cities and the Twilight's Hammer attacked. Players who took part earned titles, gear, mounts and commemorative items that the team says will never be available again. The event ran from May to July. Everyone who reserved a place before launch also got the Pegaso mount.

What the launch post listed

• Solo queue arenas for 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5, competitive battlegrounds, a free-for-all mode, a High Risk mode for world PvP and an anti-wintrade system
• Hardcore with permanent death, plus Semi Hardcore, Self-Crafted and Ironman levelling challenges
• Auto-learned spells, transmogrification, cross-faction dungeons and raids, account-wide mounts, a Black Market and a casino
• Timewalking and mythic dungeons and raids were promised too. Timewalking arrived in July, and mythic difficulty is still marked as coming soon

The first weeks

On 29 May the team wrote that DDoS attacks had limited the server's performance. The same update reworked honor: arenas at levels 1 to 84 now give 100 honor for a win and nothing for a loss, a battleground win pays 2,700 honor the first time each day and 1,350 after that, and honor rates stay at x2. On 31 May mail started arriving instantly and every player got all flight paths unlocked. On 9 June the weekly Valor and Conquest caps went up from 5,000 to 10,000.
