Project Legacy opens its Vanilla+ Open Beta

Project Legacy opened its Open Beta on Friday, 17 July 2026 at 20:00 UK time. The project is an independently developed Vanilla+ server on the original 1.12 client and the VMaNGOS core, built around the idea of "expansion without replacement."

What launched

• More than 150 new quests, concentrated in under-used zones
• A new Guardian of Hyjal world boss with custom rewards
• Onyxia Hard Mode, tuned for players returning in Molten Core gear
• Cross-faction grouping and guilds
• Dual specialisation at level 40
• Class updates for Retribution and Protection Paladins, Balance Druids, Shadow Priests and Survival Hunters
• Prestige Mode: reset a level-60 character to level 1 while keeping gear, gold and unlocks, earning permanent cosmetics
• Lorewalker Mode for a slower, world-focused levelling experience
• Optional War Mode with increased quest experience

Characters created in Open Beta are intended to carry over into release, and every account made during the beta permanently unlocks the Murky pet.

Since launch

The team reported its highest concurrent player count since day one in August, and Patch 1.12.4 on 26 August 2026 added guild banks, a new Gadgetzan arena questline and talent inspection.
