Splashgame Community opens Fólkvangr, a Vanilla 1.12 realm with x1 rates

The Splashgame Community announced Fólkvangr, a free Vanilla realm on the 1.12.1 client, on 20 July 2024. The realm was already up by then: on 4 July the community’s new Bluesky account posted that a free realm was up and running 24/7.
The rules
- Experience, gold and loot at x1
- PvP is on, and Horde and Alliance can’t talk to each other
- Free to play, with no fees, and nobody can pay for levels or overpowered gear
- Event prizes are at most normal 1.12 items or gold
- A few subtle quality-of-life changes on top of the original game
The first 100 players were promised a 13-slot Bag of Holding, mailed at level 3. The offer later ran until the end of April 2025, and every character created before 1 May got the bag.
An old community comes back
Splashgame started in 2007. It says its WoW community realm had thousands of members between 2007 and 2010, and that the community took part in large LAN parties in Sweden and Denmark. For the decade after that it was mostly idle, with its game servers open only to friends and family. Fólkvangr brought it back in 2024, on a dedicated AMD EPYC server.
